Happy 150th, Pajaronian

To the Editor,

My family has subscribed to the Pajaronian longer than I’ve been alive. My parents subscribed in the 1940s when they started working in Watsonville. My sister, brother and I grew up reading the R-P, starting with the comics. As we grew older we learned so much about politics, history, geography and science from the paper. It recorded all the important events in our city and county.

In a small community like ours, the local library is the mind, and the local churches are the soul, and the local newspaper is the heart. There is still no better news source for our area. Congratulations to the R-P and its staff, for now and for many years to come.

Follow the money

To the Editor,

In the current debate on guns, the obvious culprit is the NRA. Looking behind the NRA, we have their donors, the arms manufacturers, who are part of the Military-Industrial Complex that President Eisenhower warned us about. Their lobbyists have bought our congress. In other words, the real problem is Big Money in politics.

Big Money in politics is also the reason that we have the most expensive prescription drugs in the world, and the reason that Clinton deregulated the banks and Obama bailed out Wall Street instead of Main Street.

The really good news is that Progressive, Democrat, Republican and Trump voters all agree that Washington is broken because of Big Money in politics. Most of Congress votes with Big Money rather than for their constituents. Throw the bums out!
