The Aptos High Mariners captured a share of their fifth straight Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League championship on Thursday night with a 25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 25-9 win over Scotts Valley High in Aptos.

The Mariners (12-7, 12-2) finish the regular season as co-champions of the league with Harbor High.

Lauren Picone hit a .364 and recorded four aces, Dani Hewitt stuffed the stat sheet with 34 assists, 11 digs, three aces and two blocks and Braelynn Westjohn finished with nine kills and a block.

Aptos was celebrating senior night and honored Trinita Barrios, Sierra Martin, Madelin Smith, Hannah Devery, Abbi Saxton, Dana Foley, Picone, Hewitt and Westjohn.

The Mariners will advance to the Central Coast Section playoffs for the 27th straight season. They will find out whom they play at today’s seeding meeting.

• Watsonville 3, Monterey 2 – The Watsonville High Wildcatz finished the season with a 12-25, 26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 15-7 Monterey Bay League Pacific division win over Monterey High on Thursday night.

J.J. Jimenez had 18 assists and Camila Cardenas finished with 16 kills for Watsonville, which finished 4-8 in league play.

“The improvement we made as individuals and as a team were well worth [the season],” Watsonville head coach Tom Schatz said.

• PV 3, NMC 0 – Jaqui Lopez had 23 assists, Isabella Langarcia finished with 11 kills and the Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies swept the North Monterey County High Condors 25-13, 27-25, 25-23 in Monterey Bay League Pacific division action on Thursday.

Julie Che added five kills, four aces and three digs for Pajaro Valley.

• Harbor 3, Mt. Madonna 1 – Mara Peruzzi had 18 kills and 11 digs and Indigo Kelly added 34 assists, four digs and two kills but the Mt. Madonna Hawks still fell 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 26-24 to Harbor High on Thursday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.

Paola Jacobs finished with 10 kills and nine digs.

Mt. Madonna concludes the regular season with a 14-10 overall record and a 6-8 SCCAL record. The Hawks will find out who they play in the Central Coast Section playoffs at today’s seeding meeting.

GIRL’S WATER POLO

• Aptos 6, Christopher 2 – The Aptos High Mariners beat Christopher High 6-2 on Thursday night to advance to the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division championship game.

Aptos (16-5) will play Soquel High today at Aptos for the title at 5:30 p.m.

Kristine Malone had three goals, two assists and six steals in Thursday’s win.

GIRL’S CROSS COUNTRY

• Aptos 19, Soquel 40 – The Aptos High Mariners finished off their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet season with a win over Soquel High on the 5-kilometer course at the Aptos Polo Fields.

Marea Zlatunich was first overall, completing the course in 18 minutes, 2 seconds. Susana Estrada (18:43), Sofia Natividad (19:10), Ruth Connelly (19:55) and Kailea Zlatunich (19:57) finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, for Aptos.

The Mariners will compete at next week’s SCCAL championships at Pinto Lake County Park.

BOY’S CROSS COUNTRY

• Aptos 15, Soquel 48 – The Aptos High Mariners completed their perfect Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet season on Thursday with a win over Soquel High at the Aptos Polo Fields.

Koya Oki (16 minutes, 39 seconds), Jorge Benitez (16:40), Jackson Schenone (16:41), Josiah Sweet (17:07) and Luis Garcia (17:13) took the top five spots in that order.

The Mariners will try to defend their SCCAL title at next week’s league championships at Pinto Lake County Park.

GIRL’S TENNIS

• Aptos 6, Soquel 1 – The Aptos High Mariners beat the Soquel High Knights 6-1 to repeat as Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champions on Thursday.

Mia Totah, Lila Sampson, Rebecca Sampson and Molly Mott won in singles for Aptos.

Aptos finished 12-0 in SCCAL play and will advance to the Central Coast Section playoffs.

WOMEN’S JC VOLLEYBALL

• Cabrillo 3, San Mateo 0 – Bella Bress had 34 assists, five kills, four aces and three digs to lead the Cabrillo College Seahawks to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of the College of San Mateo on Wednesday night in Coast Conference North division action.

Jolie Samuelson had 11 kills, nine digs and three aces, while Camryn Rocha chimed in with eight kills, two digs and two blocks.

Cabrillo (20-1, 7-0) will try to keep its eight-match win streak alive today at home in a three-way weekend tournament against College of the Sequoias and Feather River College in Aptos.
