Aptos High senior golfer Max Meltzer finished tied for 44th at Monday’s California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Golf Championships at the Sierra View Country Club in Roseville. Meltzer fired a 5-over par 77.

A week ago Meltzer became only the third golfer from Santa Cruz County to win the Central Coast Section Individual Championship by carding a 4-under par 67 at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey.

The future San Jose State Spartan also was a three-time CCS finalist and won the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Individual crown as well.

• Two Mariners named all-leaguers – Aptos High’s pair of junior midfielders Blake Welle and Jackson Carver were recently named to the Mission Trail Athletic League First Team by the coaches from around the league.

Carver finished with team highs in assists (35), wins on faceoffs (69) and ground balls (63). He also added five goals.

Welle, meanwhile, scored 16 goals and made five assists, while winning 12 faceoffs and picking up 54 groundballs.

Aptos finished 14-5 overall and 6-4 in MTAL North division play.
