Peter Sesek of Los Altos will participate in Push America’s “Journey of Hope” bike ride across the United States this summer to support homes for children with disabilities.

Sesek, 20, a sophomore at the University of Michigan, was inspired by a visit with his fraternity to the Eisenhower Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. At the facility, he saw disabled children playing games. Performing tasks able people take for granted, such as holding blocks, were accomplishments for them.

“I saw how happy it made people,” he said.

Sesek will attend an orientation May 30, before departing on the ride from San Francisco June 3. Averaging approximately 50 miles a day, the group is scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., Aug. 8.

Sesek will ride with 30 other cyclists. His fundraising goal is $7,000, part of the overall “Journey of Hope” goal of $600,000.

The economics major and math minor graduated from Mountain View High School in 2010 and attended Blach Intermediate and Oak Avenue schools. He is the son of Elizabeth and Edward Sesek, and has an older brother, Robert.
