Results of the 2012 California Standardized Testing and Reporting tests show continued annual improvement among Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District students, including the Hispanic subgroup, based on recently released statewide data.
The accompanying chart reflects a five-year improvement in the percentages of district students who achieved “Proficient” or “Advanced” scores. Scores at that level mean students are on track for eligibility to enter the UC/CSU system upon graduation.
“(Our district) has made significant gains in raising the performance of our underachieving students,” said Donna Peltz, Mountain View High assistant principal. “It’s not enough. Every effort must be made to increase success for all students.”
Highlights of the results
• Students in ninth grade improved in all academic areas: English, Algebra, Geometry, Biology and Chemistry.
• Students in 10th grade improved in all academic areas, including English, Life Science, World History, Biology and Chemistry, except Algebra II.
• Students in 11th grade improved in all academic areas: English, U.S. History, Summative High School Math and Physics.
Overall, students improved over the five years in every area reported but one.
The Hispanic subgroup showed increased academic progress as measured by the assessment.
“This improvement in students’ achievements is linked to our teachers’ efforts to align instruction and continually review data to evaluate their effectiveness,” said Perla Pasallo, Los Altos High assistant principal. “Credit goes to our students, who take this exam seriously, and our staff, who have worked hard to ensure that all students are mastering the standards.”
