New evacuation orders issued in Watsonville

A high-res version of this map is available at cityofwatsonville.org.

WATSONVILLE, CA- Evacuation orders have been issued for Watsonville neighborhoods with a high risk of flooding during this recent storm.

Residents are asked to evacuate immediately if their residence is within the red area on this map. City officials are encouraging evacuations, and asserting that choosing not to evacuate “puts you and your family at risk and will delay rescue operations.”

As of 11:am, new evacuation warnings have been issued for the yellow areas on the map.

An overnight shelter has opened at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 E. Lake Avenue in Watsonville. East Lake Avenue is closed due to flooding, so evacuees are urged to find an alternate route to get to the fairgrounds. The shelter will also accommodate domestic and large animals.

For those needing transportation services, Lift Line will be available to assist by calling  831-688-9663.

Officials are asking everyone else not under evacuation orders to stay home and remain off the roads if possible.

All PVUSD schools have canceled classes for the day due to the risk of flooding in many areas. Cabrillo College Watsonville Center is also closed.
