Winning runs in the family
Members of the Spragins family triumphed at the Los Altos Girl Scout Unit 8 Pinewood Derby, held March 24 at Oak Avenue School.
The three Spragins children each won first place in their division. Approximately 100 youth, from kindergarten through 12th grade, entered the annual event.
Third-grader Ashleigh won first place for best Girl Scout-themed Derby car, first-grader Morganne placed first for fastest Daisy Derby car and recorded the fastest race time of the day across all divisions, and first-grader Matthew earned a first-place trophy for fastest Derby car in the Open Class race. The Open Class allows siblings of Girl Scouts to participate.
The Spragins’ parents said they were surprised and proud of their children’s first-place wins.
“To see them all get first-place awards in their own divisions made it even more exciting and was something we never expected would have happened,” said Julie Spragins, the children’s mother. “It’s just one of those special family times that we will never forget.”
