A construction worker on his way to his job site was flown to a Bay Area trauma center with serious injuries Tuesday morning after being struck by a pickup.

According to Watsonville Police Sgt. Donny Thul, the pickup was traveling south on Harkins Slough Road at about 6:45 a.m. The victim, identified as a Watsonville man, was crossing the street from Ramsay Park to the apartment complex that is under construction.

The female driver stopped at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the collision, Thul said.

The victim had been working at the new apartment complex for about three weeks, according to a witness.

Police shut down Harkins Slough Road for the investigation.

The victim’s condition was not available late Tuesday morning.
