Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies on Wednesday—with the help of a Belgian Malinois K9 officer named Rocket—arrested a Watsonville man after he was found with a large stash of illegal drugs.

Rodrigo Roy Marquez, 45, was charged with possession of narcotics for sale, driving on a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle.

He also had a felony no-bail warrant for being in violation of his terms of probation.

At 1:30am on April 23 a deputy contacted a subject in a vehicle on the 10200 block of Merritt Street in Castroville. Deputies recognized Marquez, who had multiple outstanding arrest warrants.

During the arrest, a K9 officer alerted deputies of drugs in his vehicle. A search revealed that Marquez was in possession of about 500 fentanyl pills, about 46 grams of cocaine, about 44 grams of crack cocaine and about 36 grams of heroin. He was also found in possession of controlled substances for sales and distribution.

Marquez was booked into the Monterey County Jail. He has a “no bail” hold, and an additional $90,000 bail for his additional warrants and new arrest violations.
