PV Arts opens ‘Emergence’ show

“Emergence,” the latest exhibition at Pajaro Valley Arts, has opened at the Pajaro Valley Gallery, 37 Sudden St.

The exhibit showcases 33 artists with more than 100 works in a wealth of mediums.

Based on the definition of emergence—“coming into being or prominence”—the artwork features new artists “coming into being” and established artists working in a “completely new medium or style,” said curator Tim Sterling.

“I’m very excited about this show because we are bringing in so many new artists to PVA, a lot of young and older, and a wide variety of medium,” Sterling said. “It’s an all-inclusive show. We have a lot of young people, a lot of older people and folks with all kinds of backgrounds. The people are expressing their community in their art. This is all new for PV Arts.”

The show includes oil, acrylic and pastel paintings, woodblock, glass works, mosaics, ceramics, photography, textiles, cold rolled steel, intaglio prints and more.

“Some of the artists in ‘Emergence’ have completed graduate level studies,” Sterling said. “Others are not only exploring a new medium but also new styles, from very realistic depictions of their subject matter to complete abstraction.”

“Emergence” runs through July 16. PV Arts is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am-4pm. Admission is free. For information, call 722.3062 or visit pvarts.org.

Next up at the gallery will be “Out of the Fire,” which opens Aug. 9.
