The Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony, scheduled for 5pm on Nov. 17, has been canceled due to predicted thunderstorms and rain, said Jessica Beebe, recreation supervisor at Watsonville Parks & Community Services.

The main switch to turn on the thousands of lights around the plaza and on the 40-foot Sequoia tree will still go on this evening, minus the ceremony which had included a visit from Santa.

The annual Santa Tour on Dec. 13-15, where Santa and his elves and others tour area schools and parks with their mobile musical performances, is still in the works.
