April 27, 1946 – April 10, 2026
John “Ross” Millie of San Rafael CA, was a devoted father, grandfather, and lifelong learner. Ross passed away on April 10, 2026 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by the people he loved most. He is survived by three children and two grandchildren: son Alex Millie, son Noble Millie, daughter Ramsay Millie Siegal, grandson Charlie Siegal and granddaughter Kalia Siegal. Also surviving are his sister Nancy Millie Clock and cousin Ann Millie Jones.
Born April 27, 1946 in Long Beach, CA, Ross harbored a deep appreciation for adventure, curiosity, and the outdoors from an early age. His childhood was full of sunny Southern California days, playing on the beach in Laguna with his sister and cousin, sailing in Alamitos Bay with his friends and skiing in the Sierra Nevadas. He spent the majority of his adult life in Northern California, where he attended Stanford University for both his undergraduate and MBA, an experience that influenced his career, gave him a lifelong network of friends, and provided continuing intellectual engagement that he treasured.
A master planner, he intrinsically envisioned the future in thorough detail, making him a natural fit for his chosen profession of private wealth management. In 1991, Ross founded Millie Capital Management and built meaningful relationships with his clients over 27 years. In 2018, the company was acquired by EP Wealth Management where Ross remained engaged as a consultant to continue his commitment to the well-being of his clients and their families.
Ross enjoyed a good game of tennis or pickleball. He loved the Marin Tennis Club, participating in match play and tournaments late into his 70s, and enjoyed local pickup pickleball courts on a near-daily basis. He was also a passionate skier, spending countless winter days in Tahoe and the Rockies with his friends in the Rusty Bindings Ski Club.
Ross had boundless curiosity for the world and was always reading, learning, and interacting with the people around him. His intellectual drive found an outlet in a longtime book club, and after retirement, international travel. He had many talents – he could Waltz, Foxtrot, West Coast Swing and Salsa with friends with ease, play chess with his kids for sport, sing any tune, and juggle for laughs.
Above all, he cherished time with family and adventuring with his grandchildren, Charlie and Kalia Siegal, who brought him immense joy.
Ross was a philanthropist and supported numerous nonprofit organizations. He was particularly committed to environmental conservation, global educational initiatives, and local food banks.
Ross will be remembered for his warmth, curiosity, generosity, and positivity. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he touched along the way.
