Documentary chronicles media’s portrayals of women
The Los Altos-Mountain View Parent Teacher Association Council, Partners for New Generations and the MVLA High School Foundation have scheduled a screening of the documentary “Miss Representation” 7 p.m. today at the Mountain View High School Spartan Theater, 3535 Truman Ave.
The film, written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, details how mainstream media contribute to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film chronicles the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful.
Admission is free, but reservations are recommended. The film is rated TV-14 for dialogue and language.
