Close to 60 students from Hope Services celebrated an exhibit of their art at Studio Judy G in downtown Watsonville Tuesday.

The exhibit was the centerpiece of “A Hope Party!” a three-hour gathering to honor art, community, “and hope, featuring a special exhibition by Hope artists,” and creative activities, said Judy Gittelsohn, owner of Studio Judy G. Local students who showed up were also handed a free art kit.

Curated by Studio Manager, Dafne Martinez, the colorful works explore a wide range of mostly abstract shapes painted in golden acrylic on board. The show will run until Dec. 31.

“Hope Services has multiple locations throughout the Bay Area,” Martinez said. “We host classes at Studio Judy G for Watsonville, Aptos, and Santa Cruz locations. Judy has been working with Hope Services since 2007, loves the art they create and this exhibition showcases some of the delightful and colorful work they have created.”

Hope Services is an organization dedicated to supporting people with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.

The show coincides with an ongoing exhibit, curated by Gittelsohn, “Close Humans,” at Studio Judy G.

“When it comes to curating the show, I do my best to help the viewer feel a sense of flow with both color and subject matter,”Martinez said. “For me, this show and the artists of Hope Services are a source of inspiration.”
