The win pushed Watsonville’s unbeaten streak to 10 games, improved the black and gold to 12-1-3 overall and pushed the team into first place in the star-studded league.

Emily Edgerle scored two goals and Caroline Sullivan added the third goal for M.V.C. (10-2-4, 8-0-2), which can clinch its first league crown since the 2014-15 season with a win against Monterey tonight at home and a tie between Seaside and Pajaro Valley.

Pajaro Valley (17-4, 7-0) has already shattered the program’s previous records for overall wins (11) and league wins (5) in a single season — both of which were set during the 2014-15 campaign — and it also reset the program record for points scored in a single game in a 73-25 drubbing of Santa Catalina on Wednesday.

Cabrillo College softball has won just 23 games combined over the last two seasons, six less than they won in 2016 alone. This year’s team is looking to shake off the struggles of the past and hit their way back into a berth in the postseason tournament.

Watsonville moved up to 15th in the state, according to MaxPreps’ rankings, and made its debut on Top Drawer Soccer’s Winter FAB 50 national rankings after beating Alvarez. Sophomore Jael Leal and junior Eric Vasquez each scored a goal to help the ‘Catz improve to 11-1-3 overall and 4-0-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan division action.

Jayleen Solorzano had 32 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals as the Grizzlies reset their program record for most points in a single game in Wednesday night’s Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia division win.

The visiting Saints (12-9, 5-0) outlasted the Seahawks (13-4, 4-1) in a neck-and-neck battle between the top two teams of the Coast Conference South division on Wednesday night.
