The Aptos High Mariners finished up Reggie Roberts’ final Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet season perfectly with a pair of wins over Scotts Valley High and St. Francis High on Wednesday night at home.

Aptos got goals from three players and its defense posted its fourth straight shutout to cruise to its fifth straight Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League championship with a 3-0 win over Scotts Valley High.

Tuesday night’s 68-49 victory over St. Francis High locked up the program’s first 12-0 Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League season since 1983. It’s also the first time the Mariners’ can call themselves league champions — period — since 2001.

Aptos High alumna Nikki Hiltz, now a redshirt senior with Arkansas, placed ninth in the Millrose Games Wanamaker Mile in New York while competing against several of the top female milers in the country on Saturday.

Pajaro Valley senior guard Ryan Magbag scored 39 points and hit nine 3-pointers to lead the Grizzlies to a pair of league wins last week.

Senior forward Jason Gallo had 18 points, fellow senior forward Chase Watkins added 22 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and St. Francis outlasted Aptos 56-53 on senior night to set up a pivotal Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League showdown with Santa Cruz High on Tuesday night.

Mosqueda, the top-seeded wrestler at 143 pounds heading into the weekend’s action, completed her dominant run to a Central Coast Section championship by outlasting a final takedown attempt from No. 2-seeded Kelly Nebesnick, of Gilroy High, to escape with a 5-3 decision.
