HS Football: Local teams show their stuff at SCCAL Jamboree
The annual Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Jamboree was Friday night at Carl Conelly Stadium on the campus of Cabrillo College in Aptos and we learned plenty about the 10 teams from the county.

HS Athlete of the Week: Layla Ruiz, Watsonville
Wildcatz’s freshman distance runner Layla Ruiz won the 400- and 3,200-meters at the King City Invitational on Saturday. She moved into seventh in both events in Watsonville’s all-time record book.
Boys MBL Basketball: Pajaro Valley’s Quintero named top sophomore
Quintero, the Freshman of the Year last season, averaged 22.2 points per game over 25 contests, a mark that was second-best in the entire Central Coast Section, according to the stats kept by MaxPreps.
HS Volleyball: SCCAL, MBL both holding volleyball jamborees
Watsonville and the five other local teams will all partake in league jamborees today at various sites. North Monterey County High and Pajaro Valley High will join the Wildcatz at North Salinas High for the Monterey Bay League Pacific division jamboree and Monte Vista Christian travels to Salinas High for the MBL-Gabilan division jamboree, while Aptos High, St. Francis High and Mt. Madonna will compete in the brand-new Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Jamboree at Santa Cruz High. All three jamborees are set for a 9 a.m. start.
