Twenty-nine below-market-rate rental units are available at Harken Apartments, 5150 El Camino Real, with applications due by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
Eligible applicants should review the income requirements and submit all required application materials by the deadline. Priority is given to applicants who meet the city’s established priority categories, which include qualifying school district employees, city employees and Santa Clara County Fire Department employees assigned to the city’s two fire stations.
The Harken units are part of Los Altos’ affordable housing program, which includes 230 income-restricted units: 150 rental units, 16 senior rental units and 64 units available for purchase.
The city generally requires developers of multifamily housing projects to include affordable units, which are restricted to households at specified moderate-, low- and very-low-income levels.
Los Altos also considers accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, an important part of its housing stock. ADUs are independent living spaces located on the same property as a single-family or multifamily home.
There are currently no affordable for-sale units available through the city’s program.
