WATSONVILLE—Watsonville police on Wednesday arrested a man after he allegedly used a gun to steal beer and roses from the Safeway store on Freedom Boulevard.

Agustin Colin, 20, was charged with robbery, in addition to several weapons and gang charges. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido, Colin was caught on a security camera flashing a gun, stealing several cases of beer and two bouquets of roses, and then fleeing in a getaway car around 8:30 p.m.

About two hours later, a WPD sergeant tracked down the getaway car to the 100 block of Grant Street. The sergeant was able to find Colin, because he was still wearing the same clothing from the armed robbery, Pulido said.

As the sergeant approached, Colin started running and tossed a loaded firearm over a fence.

Officers recovered the weapon used in the armed robbery, and some of the stolen items, including the red roses priced at $13.59, according to Safeway’s website.

Detectives are seeking the rest of the suspects from the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Watsonville Police Department at 471-1151, the anonymous tip line at 768-3544 or WDP’s Investigations Bureau at 768-3352.
