Los Altos residents and City of Los Altos employees can now apply for a city-subsidized childcare program that covers up to 50% of childcare costs, with a maximum benefit of $10,000 per household. The program supports the County of Santa Clara’s affordable childcare initiative.

To qualify, households must meet HUD income guidelines for the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area and have children between the ages of 2 and 5. Applicants must provide proof of Los Altos residency or city employment, legal guardianship documentation for each child, and verification of enrollment in a qualifying assistance program, such as Medi-Cal, CalFresh, WIC, CalWORKs, Section 8 or the free or reduced-price school lunch program.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be accepted until available funding is exhausted. Funding is available during the annual program cycle, which runs from July 1 through June 30. Any unused subsidy funds expire at the end of the funding cycle and cannot be carried over or transferred to another child.
