Voters across Mountain View and Los Altos will decide several school board races in the Nov. 3 general election, including the first trustee-area election for the Mountain View-Los Altos (MVLA) High School District and a contested race for three seats on the Los Altos School District (LASD) board.
In MVLA, three of five seats are up for election. The election marks the district’s first use of trustee areas, replacing the previous at-large system. The switch came after the district received a challenge under the California Voting Rights Act. A new election map approved in 2025 divided the district into five areas, with Areas 4 and 5 not on the ballot until 2028.
Area 1 candidate Nir Paz is running for the seat. Area 2 will feature Mountain View City Councilmember Ellen Kamei, while Area 3 includes current trustees Thida Cornes and Catherine Vonnegut and former trustee and board president Sanjay Dave.
Three LASD seats are also on the ballot. Current board president Vaishali “Shali” Sirkay, Trustee Bryan Johnson and appointed Trustee Brandon Stroy are being challenged by David Poll.
The ballot will also include trustee-area races for the Foothill-De Anza Community College District and three seats on the Cupertino Union School District board.
