WATSONVILLE — Granite Construction, which has been using Watsonville Municipal Airport for nearly a century, will no longer be using the airport, the company confirmed Aug. 10.
It was unclear why the company made the decision.
While Granite Construction will keep its headquarters in Watsonville, the company will now use Monterey Airport.
“Our decision to exit the Watsonville Airport was not easy given our nearly 100-year history with the airport but is in the best interest of the company,” Granite Construction spokesperson Jacqueline Fourchy said. “We are thankful for the relationships we have built with so many at the airport and look forward to building many more at the Monterey Airport. Our commitment to the Watsonville community overall is as strong as ever.”
Watsonville City Manager Charles Montoya said the move gives the company larger hangar space.
Montoya added that the hangar space vacated by Granite Construction has been filled.
“Anytime a business partner leaves the community, it is something we pay attention to,” he said.
