WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council is set to consider a number of pay increases for positions in a variety of city departments Tuesday.

On consent agenda, the council will look to approve new job descriptions and salary ranges for the airport, community development, finance and public works departments.

According to a report by Airport Manager Rayvon Williams, the role of airport manager will be updated to airport director, with a salary range of $9,262.67-$12,412.88 a month, up from the current $8,077.33-$10,824.36 per month.

The move reflects a decision by the city council in late 2016, when the Watsonville Municipal Airport was reclassified from a division of the Public Works Department to one that reports directly to the Office of the City Manager.

Over the past four years, the role of airport manager has expanded to include oversight of construction and development projects at the airport as well as representing the city at various meetings, among other things, the report stated.

Other positions in the airport set for a pay increase include the airport operations supervisor and three airport operations specialists.

The Community Development Department is looking to add three new positions. Among those is a supervising plans examiner, which will provide the city in-house plan review services, according to a report by Acting Community Development Director Suzi Merriam. Currently, the city has a contract with a consulting firm to cover all building plan reviews.

Among many other positions, utility workers, a permit clerk, code enforcement officers and others are set for pay increases.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the council will consider approving an update to the Neighborhood Traffic Plan.

The Neighborhood Traffic Plan was first approved by the council in 2001, according to a report by Public Works and Utilities Director Steve Palmisano and Assistant Director Maria Esther Rodriguez. The plan aims to address speeding and other complaints within neighborhoods by including education, enforcement and street modifications.

The 2017 update, among other things, adds a discussion on traffic calming.

Residents are encouraged to form a Neighborhood Traffic Group to identify traffic issues and meet with city officials. For information, visit www.cityofwatsonville.org/1483/Neighborhood-Traffic-Plan.
