An electrical transformer was blown to shreds by a lightning strike Monday afternoon on Holly Drive in Watsonville that forced emergency officials to shut the road down. Meanwhile, another lightning strike knocked out power lines on Grant Street and Marchant Street following a violent thunderstorm that rocked the region. At the same time, a wild land fire opened up on Larkin Valley Road. As much as a half-acre burned in a fire that was triggered by a lightning strike.
