The Egan Junior High School track team had a successful day at the Silicon Valley Middle School Championships May 19, with the Egan seventh-grade girls finishing first and the eighth-grade boys in second.
Egan sent 27 athletes to participate at the county track meet in Campbell and got outstanding performances from seventh-graders like Sawyer Pitschka (first in seventh-grade girls 65 meter hurdles), Veda Reddy (first in seventh-grade girls triple jump), Allison Krutzik (second in seventh-grade girls 400 meters), Tahlia Morgenstern (third in seventh-grade girls triple jump) and Mahi Choletti (third in seventh-grade girls 1600 meters). For the eighth-grade boys, Jackson Clement (first in eighth-grade boys high jump, second in eighth-grade boys 100 meters), Nate Giesselman (first in eighth-grade boys 100 meters), and Macabee Lee (second in eighth-grade boys high jump) had top performances as well.
To qualify for the county track meet, athletes needed to finish in the top five of an event at the previous week’s Valley Athletic League Championships, while relay teams had to finish in the top two, Egan track coach Steve Apfelberg said. The Valley Athletic League has 11 schools and 33 athletes competing in each event.
