Tomato lovers can taste, compare and vote for their favorite varieties at Hidden Villa’s 17th annual Tomato Tasting Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Los Altos Hills.
More than 150 guests are expected to sample a range of tomatoes, including Sungold and heirloom varieties, then cast their votes for a favorite. The winning variety’s seeds will be collected and planted for the next growing season.
Last year’s winner, The Wrestler, was created at Hidden Villa in 2008 by crossing Striped German and Marmande tomatoes.
The festival will also celebrate Hidden Villa’s 20-year partnership with the Community Services Agency of Mountain View. Hidden Villa donates more than 10,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce to the agency’s food pantry each year.
Beyond tomato tasting, the event will feature demonstrations of Hidden Villa’s regenerative farming practices, games and crafts, and live music from the Magic Jazz Band. Food will be available from Zaida’s Oaxacan Kitchen and Little Sky Bakery, and J. Lohr Winery will provide complimentary wine.
The festival will be held at Hidden Villa, 26807 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills.
