Regeneración: Pajaro Valley Climate Action hosts resource fair

PAJARO—Regeneración: Pajaro Valley Climate Action hosted its “Healthy Children for a Healthy Planet” resource fair at the Nuevo Amanecer Apartments in Pajaro on Sunday.

Families enjoyed fresh fruit and homemade vegan cauliflower ceviche and took home reusable bamboo spoon/fork combination utensils to help reduce single-use plastics.

Children from Teresa Sanchez’ Baile Folklorico group performed a number of dances and Rapid Response held a “Know your Rights” workshop with Watsonville Law Center staff.

Volunteer Mercedez Hernandez came to play games with children while parents attended the workshop.

“The presentation on immigration was important and powerful to provide information to the people who most need it, especially at this time,” Hernandez said. “You can’t have healthy children without healthy parents.”

Participants received information about the climate emergency, recycling and disposal of household hazardous waste, how to save money on electric bills, special discounts on electric vehicles, pesticide safety, support for managing alcoholism, and farmworker rights.

Watsonville Mayor Francisco Estrada and Vice Mayor Rebecca Garcia both spoke about the need for everyone to become informed about climate change and to take individual and collective action, for humanity to have a chance at protecting a livable environment for the children.

The resource fair was supported by a California Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Justice Small Grant and sponsored by Monterey Bay Community Power and Waste Management.
