St. Francis High senior setter Audrey Ryan and Aptos High’s duo of junior outside hitter Jillian Rodriguez and freshman libero Peyton Dueck made the cut for the league’s seven-player team, which also featured Santa Cruz High junior setter Kianna Lee, Harbor High sophomore middle blocker Kylie Clouse, San Lorenzo Valley High junior middle blocker Audrey Bingham and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Strah.

And top-seeded South San Francisco High, with enough heart and passion to make NBA great Kevin Garnett seem tame, took full advantage to dethrone the defending Central Coast Section Division III champs, 66-50, and win the program’s first-ever section title at Piedmont Hills High.

Santa Cruz (2-0) hit 12 of its 16 shots from beyond the arc over the first two quarters, and held Stockton (2-2) to just 45 points to jump out to a 34-point lead heading into the locker room.

The Register-Pajaronian High School Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 3.

Zacarias pinned No. 2 seed Nick Trave of Petaluma to take third at 106 pounds, while Meyers pinned No. 4 seed Isaiah Ontiveros of Pitman in the third-place match at 152 pounds.
